Tomeka Shanta Smith

On Friday, July 26, 2024, our beloved Tomeka quietly completed this earthly journey, and answered God’s call to lay down her burdens and enter eternal rest.

Tomeka, who was affectionally known as “Nee-Nee,” or “Meka,” was born June 7, 1979, to Jesse Allen (Al) and Cynthia Louise Smith. She was reared in Creeds, (Virginia Beach), and was educated in the Virginia Beach Public Schools System. She was a 1998 graduate of Kellam High School and later attended Tidewater Community College, where she earned several certifications.

Tomeka was employed as a Manager with the Wendy’s Corporation, and later worked with Sentara Home Health. 

She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and joined Little Piney Grove Baptist Church. She served with the Youth Ministry, the Youth Choir, the Youth Ushers, Praise Dance Ministry, and the LPG Gospel Choir. 

Tomeka was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Rosetta Chapter #119.

Tomeka was a loving and devoted daughter, mother, sister, and friend. She treasured her family and adored her baby brother, Damion, who she lovingly called “Ray Nathan.” But no one could take the place of her children, who were so precious to her. She loved to make her family happy with laughter and smiles. 

Tomeka leaves to cherish precious memories, her daughters, Diamond and Tanette McPherson, son, Kobe Smith; parents, Jesse and Cynthia Smith; six sisters, Lynette Smith, Linda Price, Brenda Gregory, Glenda Jones (Jesse), Wanda Smith, and Jessie Smith; two brothers, Damion and Greg Smith (Aurora) and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

We miss her now; our hearts are sore. As time goes by, we’ll miss her more. Her loving smile and gentle face, no one on earth can ever fill her vacant place.
