On October 15,2016, Susie Alzenia Lewis Davis passed into eternal rest in Norfolk, Virginia. Born in West Palm Beach, Florida in May, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Alzo and Virginia Lewis of West Palm Beach. Mom graduated from Industrial High School and continued her education at Hampton Institute (now Hampton University). While there, she met the love of her life- E. Morris Davis of Roanoke, Virginia who she married in her senior year just before graduation.
Mom always loved children and returned to school to obtain her certificate in elementary education. She taught at several schools in Palm Beach County while obtaining her master’s degree in education. She completed her career at Redemptive Life Elementary School where she was a teacher then moved to principal of the school.
Mom fought Alzheimer’s in her last three years of life. She found many friends at the Basilica of St. Mary in Norfolk who adopted her as their ‘Mom’. Although her mind was fading, she sang along to any gospel song she could remember in her alto voice.
Left to mourn her death and celebrate her life are her children, Denise Davis, MD, Eric Davis, nieces and nephews Walter (Rachel) Wheaton, Marsha (Ronald) Lanier, Teri Wheaton, Sherman (Lorna) Stovall, special friends Alexandra Pollard, Marianne Onyirimba, Gene and Bev Balbuena, Roberto and Sandra Gonzalez (and family).
