Olivia Lindsay

August 20, 1944 — July 24, 2018

"Seldom has God given so much to many people through just one woman."

Our heavenly Father saw fit, unbeknownst to us her family who were present, to reward Olivia D. Lindsay with her wings on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.

Olivia was born in Norfolk, Virginia to the late James and Majorie Driver. Olivia was blessed at an early age with a love for the lord and a love and ease of learning. By the time she turned four years of age she was reading, which she loved to do, fluently.

She joined Oakwood Chapel Church at a young age, was Baptized and began teaching Sunday school at age 15. She later, after marriage, joined her husbands family Church, Ebenezer Baptist Church in Virginia Beach where she served on the Pastor's Aide, member of the Women's Fellowship, and as a Deaconess.

Olivia, along with 16 other young children, were selected by God to lead the way for a more equal educational system within the Norfolk Public Schools. Her journey was not an easy one but being ordained by God she knew she must fullfill her assigment. Olivia and these students would later be known world wide as the Norfolk 17. Olivia taught PreSchool and Kindergarten for over 20 years at Mt. Gilead Baptist PreSchool and Kindergarten, and loved every minute of it. After retiring she began to tutor students and volunteer.

Olivia was a patient at the Kempsville Fresenius Dialysis Center in Norfolk for 17 1/2 years. While there she did her best three times a week to encourage not only the other patients but the techs, nurses and doctors, and would yearly at Christmas prepare gift bags for her Dialysis Center Family. She loved her family, her Church families, her Norfolk 17 "brothers and sisters", her co-worker family, her dialysis family, her friends and especially children. She saw them and our future and always worked to assist any child in any way she could.

Olivia leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 53 years, Walter L. Lindsay, Sr., two daughters, Min. Tondala Coefield (Kenneth), Lisa Lindsay-Shaw (Larry); one Son Walter L. Lindsay, Jr. (Dara - deceased); two brothers, Albert E. Driver and Alfred C. Driver (Norma), her beloved four grandchildren Larisa Shaw, Kaia Lindsay, Joi Belton Summerville, and Dontavious Myrick, and Moya Calloway Jackson who was like a grandchild to her, God Daughter Veronica Kelley (Antonio)]Brittany, Nisha, AJL Adoptive daughter Benita Sanderlin (Larry)[SarahL her loving brother and sister in- laws, a host of wonderful nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and very dear friends, and her Norfolk 17 Brothers and Sisters
