Melissa Renay Jones was called home to enter the Lords gates on Friday, June 26, 2020 7:35 am at Houston Methodist West Hospital.
Melissa, also known as “Mimi” was born August 18, 1979 in Virginia Beach, VA to Vanessi Jones and Albert Jones. She graduated from Mayde Creek High School, Houston Tx. She attended Southwest Texas State University, San Marcos, Tx, and University of Texas, Austin, Tx.
Melissa went on to graduate from the University of Houston, where she earned a Bachelor degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Marketing. While there she also received certification from Bauer College of Business which landed her an internship with Radio One, KMJQ and wrote numerous articles for Black and Single magazine. Melissa worked for Levy Hospitality/Toyota Center, Houston, Tx.
Melissa was a caring, passionate, loving person and a very dedicated friend. A goal oriented person who wanted to succeed in every task or job she was faced with. A love for reading, fashion and a deep passion for cooking and developing new recipes that would lead to the goal to open her own food truck. Along her journey, Melissa’s personality, dedication to her job, co-workers and honest work ethics was instrumental in helping her acquire numerous recognition for a job well done.
Melissa leaves behind to cherish her memories, her mother Vanessi Jones of Houston, TX, her father Albert Jones of Monroe, La; two sisters Shelly Morton-Ubesie (Ifeanyi) and Chanel Jones both of Houston Tx; two nieces Dariann and Sydnay Morton-High of Houston, TX; one brother Juston Akeem Jones of Virginia Beach, VA; an aunt Veida Evans of Norfolk, VA; an Uncle Leroy D. Morton Jr. of Portsmouth, VA; a host of cousins of Norfolk/Portsmouth; Washington DC/Maryland; Washington State; California; an aunt Carolyn Faye Lewis and an Albert Browhaw Jr. both of Monroe, La; an Aunt Beatrice Hudson of Oakland, California. Melissa also leaves a host of friends and associates in Houston, Tx; especially her childhood friends Nina Bobo McCormick and Kenneth “BUD” Ball, Jr. who will all miss her dearly.
Melissa is preceded in death by her Grandparents Naomi and Leroy Morton of Portsmouth, VA; Grandma Lucy Browhaw of Monroe, LA; Uncle Guion “Guy” Morton of Newport News, VA, Derryck Andre Evans Cousin; aunt Barbara Browhaw-Adams of Monroe, LA.
