It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Max Lassiter, who departed this world on May 8th, 2023. He was born on March 3rd, 1939 and made an indelible mark on those he encountered during his life's journey.
Max was a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend to all who knew him. He lived his life with purpose and sincerity, always making time for others while never sacrificing his own passions and interests. His kind heart and infectious smile brought joy to those around him.
Max was a true Renaissance man with an insatiable curiosity and a deep appreciation for the arts. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of music from all eras and genres, distinctively the jazz greats from the golden era of big band orchestras. In his youth he played the trumpet at dances and later in life became known as an avid collector of classic vinyl records.
In addition to his love of music Max had a passion for travel, having visited dozens of destinations around the world. It was said that at one point he could have written a travel guide himself. His wanderlust took him from Parisian cafes to the sandy shores of Bora Bora and everywhere in between.
Max's professional career spanned several decades in various industries; however his almost two decade stint as publisher at Daily News spoke volumes about his passion and dedication to excellence. He cultivated trust among readers by delivering unbiased news pieces whilst challenging journalists to write without fear or prejudice.
Max will be dearly missed by all who knew him throughout his fruitful life spent spreading joy wherever he went. His memory will continue to inspire many for years to come.
Rest in peace Max Lassiter; your contributions to this world are immeasurable, but your kindness will live on through those you've touched.
