In the early hours of Saturday, Apr. 15, 2023, Lloyd Edward Chandler enlisted for his highest service to our Heavenly Father departing with His angles amidst the presents and comfort of his family.
Born Sept. 25, 1933, to the late Enos Chandler and Mattie Chandler in New York, NY, he attended and completed public schools of New York City, NY. At an early age he began his spiritual development through the Catholic faith later exercising his free will to join his wife in worship at St. Paul A.M.E. as a member until his homegoing.
His wife Evelyn Daniel Chander and his brother, Ernest R. Chandler, preceded him in death
He was united in holy matrimony on Dec. 27, 1952, to his devoted wife of 55 years, the late Evelyn Daniel Chandler of Hampton, VA. The couple lived in Portugal, New York, Michigan, Hampton, VA, settling in Isle of Wight County, VA for the past 45 years.
His professional career service began, at age 18, as an enlisted member of the United States Airforce. Following 20 years of service to his county having earned the rank of Technical Sargent, he retired with an honorable discharge. He began his second and final service duty with Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company where he would become a supervisor in the 043 Maintenance Division in less than 5 years going on to serve the company in this leadership role for 22 years until his retirement in 1992.
His love for craft work was best expressed in his unique hand of ceramic making and some wood works. Many have enjoyed his gift of a ceramic angel or nativity scene. He also held a long tenured membership in the Les Hommes Social and Civic Club, Hampton, VA. Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather possessed an uplifting sense of humor capable of advancing the good and turning around the bad to the blessings of good.
Lloyd Chandler leaves to mourn: his one devoted son, Kenneth L. Chandler (Regina) of Virginia Beach, VA; one devoted goddaughter, Melissa R. Bailey of Carrollton, VA; three inspired grandchildren; Kirsten L. Chandler of Alexandria, VA, Jillian L. Chandler and Nicholas L. Chandler both of Virginia Beach, VA; one special niece Regina Farmer Atlanta, GA, one special nephew Darren Jordan, Chandler, AZ; one special grand nephew Adrian Hawkins, Ashland, VA; close brothers-in-law Herman Daniel (Elnora) and Rubin Daniel (Cynthia) of Hampton and Suffolk, VA; sister-in-law’s Ruby Price (Robert) Atlanta, GA and Martha Johnson, Newport News, VA; in addition to a host of loved nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
