Homer Julius Woods passed away on April 9, 2024 at his home in Chesapeake just 2 days shy of his 93rd birthday. He was born in Laurens, SC, but spent most of his life living in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. He was a graduate of Cradock High School in Portsmouth and worked most of his career at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a patternmaker. He served his country honorably during the Korean War for the U.S. Army’s 70th tank battalion, earning a Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal W/5 Bronze Campaign Stars, and the UN Service Medal.
He was a long time resident of Deep Creek in Chesapeake and a member of Temple Baptist Church in Chesapeake for over 40 years.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Mildred “Millie” Woods, with whom he was married for over 50 years. He leaves behind his son’s Michael (wife Nancy), Eddie (wife Lisa), and Donnie (wife Dawn), all of Chesapeake, along with many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his parents Homer D Woods and Emma Ruth Lollis Woods; and his siblings, Warren Woods, Larry Woods, James Woods, Mary Ann Voliva and Marie Snyder.
