Charles Hugh Goodwin

May 2, 1952 — February 11, 2020

Charles Hugh Goodwin, 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on February 11, 2020.  He fought an uphill battle with Multiple Myeloma for two years and is finally at peace.

Charles was born on May 2, 1952, and spent his professional life as a crane operator before retiring from Operating Engineers local 147.

Full of life even when he was sick, Charles lit up a room with laughter.  There wasn't a nurse, doctor, or innocent bystander he didn't try to charm.  His giant personality grew from an enormous heart.  Despite not sharing his DNA, many called him “Grandpa Charles,” a role he relished and filled better than anyone.  He loved causing trouble, tinkering in his garage and woodworking.  Most often, you could find him camping, boating, fishing, and driving his golf cart like a crazy teenager.  In more recent years, Charles traveled the country in his RV with his wife, dogs, and any “grandkids” he could bring along for the ride.  True to his character, he made friends at every stop and never tired of plotting more good times to come.

He is survived by what he knew was his best half: his fantastic, loving, smart and beautiful wife, Rosellen Goodwin.  Charles is also the father of three amazing children: Anita Schloss, Elaina Christy, and CJ Goodwin. His four grandchildren were his pride and joy:  Brandon Gillis, Philip Baptista, his princess Allie Evans, and partner-in-crime Connor Christy.  Charles will be missed deeply by surviving siblings Joseph Goodwin, Janet Evans, Marie Goodwin-Murray and Libby Arnold, along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted children and grandchildren.  His four-legged girlfriend, Callie the Yorkie, and best buddy, Max the Saint Bernard.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Mildred Goodwin, brother Ronnie Goodwin, and sister Peggy Vest.

His family invites you to join them for a celebration of Charles’s life on Friday, February 14th, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Mom's Kitchen, located at 3501 Holland Road in Virginia Beach.  Notes of condolences can be sent to the Goodwin home at 2037 Phyllis Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23325. In lieu of flowers, the family has created a Go Fund Me account to help with Charles's medical expenses from his recent illness. The Go Fund Me account can be found on Charles Goodwin's Facebook Page.
